My name is Ramón Castro and I teach Economics in a high school of Socuéllamos, a town in the middle of La Mancha, a famous place thanks to the universal work masterpiece “Don Quijote de La Mancha“. I know something about PHP and MySQL and I’m a lover of web applications becouse I believe in the web-desktop paradigm and its posibilities. Also, I’m a enthusiastic of open source and also of free knowledge.

Since 2006,A few teachers and I began to use this system (version 1.0) and we noticed that our work increased its efficiency in several ways (management classroom data, management comunication with parents, reporting, etcetera). In 2007 we applied Siestta 2.0 and we’ve working with it the past two years. Now, for the next academic year we’re going to use the new version, Siestta 3.0, which is in development now.

The system is being using in many centers (primary schools and secundary schools) in Spain and in South America too, so people use to email me making suggestions and asking me for to improve it. They’re, in many of cases, anonymous people that thanks to me and this suposse one of the most satisfactions in the development proccess. Also, it had been imposible to develop Siestta without the pedagogical contributions of the rest of the main team, the teachers Esther, Elena and Montse Díaz Pedroche.

Of course, we are expecting more contributions (pedagogical, design, languages, etcetera) so we hope Siestta will be a big project soon. Nowdays, there a lot of teachers and parents happy with it and that’s the main motivation among others.

So, if you’re a teacher, use Siestta. It’s free for use, distribution, copy and modify in the terms of GNU License.

Greetings!
